Partner Function in Territory Management

What is the utility of defining a Partner Function for a Position in Employee Assignment in Territory Management?

I see that through Assign Partner Function to Assignment Function Category we can associate one of the Function Partner ti Territory ACF (0000, 0001, 0002).

It's only that or there's something else?

This is a very good question. Here are some thoughts.

To begin with, Territory Management is used to map the market view of the organization which basically means how the organization structures the market where it is operating. Typically the important thing in territory management is defining the scope of the territory which can be combination of various attributes for example Postal Code and a Product. So if you define the scope of a territory, say Postal Code 12345 and Product iPhone 5 and then we assign a employee John to this territory via position. This means that John is responsible for all the Business Partners who belong to Postal Code 12345 for iPhone 5. Territory Management is used to set up this kind of relationships within CRM. Elaborating more on the example... lets say for any iPhone 5 which is sold to any Business Partner belonging to area having postal code 12345, John should get the credit or commission irrespective of who made that translation. So with partner function Sales Employee or Sales Rep. or your custom Partner function assigned to John within territory he can be determined as the responsible employee within the transaction from territory management. so If a transaction is created for a Business Partner belonging to postal code 12345 and product iPhone then John will get determined as the employee responsible within that transaction at the item level. Same transaction can have another product for example iPad 3 and some other employee lets say Jill can be determined from territory management if any territory to which Jill is assigned has scope defined as Postal code 12345 and Product iPad 3. Now this information from transaction level can be used for analysis purpose to perform various type of sales analysis. You need to use Access sequence 030 in your partner determination procedure to determine the respective partners from territory management.

Hope you find this useful. Please feel free to let me know if you would like to have more information.

Ok, I understand almost everything, but I have one more question.

Suppose that I have a Territory T1 like that:

PositionEmployeePartner Function
POSITION_01EMPLOYEE_01PARTNER_FUNCTION_01
POSITION_02EMPLOYEE_02PARTNER_FUNCTION_02

Suppose that I have a PDP with code ZPDP0001, that use Access Sequence ZAC01, similar to Access Sequence 0030, made like that:

SourcePartner Function
COM_PARTNER_A Preceding Document
COM_PARTNER_M Business Partner From Territory ManagementPARTNER_FUNCTION_01

The PDP ZPDP0001 is made like:

FunctionAccess Sequence
Employee ResponsibleZAC01

I suppose that, in a transaction using PDP ZPDP0001, the Employee Responsible, if the Territory T1 is set in the transaction, is EMPLOYEE_01.

Or I'm missing something?

Hmm.... Here is the deal...

The PDP which you are assigning to the transaction should have the same partner function with access sequence 0030 or ZAC01 (in your case) which is used in territory management. to be more specific if you have used PARTNER_FUNCTION_01 used in territory management then in PDP ZPDP0001 the same partner function (PARTNER_FUNCTION_01) should be maintained with access sequence ZAC01 in order to determine EMPLOYEE_01 against partner function PARTNER_FUNCTION_01 within the transaction.

Moreover the above will only work if the transaction is satisfying the scope of the territory T1. Which means the Business Partner falls under the scope of the Territory if you assign your PDP to Transaction type OR Business Partner and Product together falls under the scope of the Territory if you assign your PDP to the Item Category.

The logic to determine the partner in transaction via territory management is.....

The PDP should have the same partner function with 0030 access sequence which is used in the territory management (assigned to the employee) and the transaction should fall within the scope of the territory.

Hope this clarify. Please feel free to let me know if you need more information. share your email id and I will send some documents which I prepared on this topic. Kind of confidential so wont put them here.
