AS02 - Deactivation of Depreciation area is not possible

Dear All,

I have created a new depreciation area '55' in SAP and oped the area from AFBN t.code.

Also I have activated the area at asset class level from OAYZ t.code.

Now my client requirement is under a specific asset class they have 1000 assets (already created, capitalized long back) and in this class around 50 assets they don't want to have the depreciation area '55'.

I checked the asset master in change mode AS02 and the field to deactivate the depreciation area is not visible to me. Also I have checked the screen layout settings field group 18-Deactivate Area, make the radio button to optional and select all check boxes Class MnNo, SbNo and save, then also this field depreciation area deactive is not visible to me by AS02. But when I see from AS03 this field is visible to me not from AS02.

We don't want to deactivate at asset class level as few assets requires new area '55' and few don't require under the same asset class.

Request with all to kindly let me know your suggestions on this as we need to fix this immediately.

Thanks to add in advance.

Syed

Dear Friends,

Thanks for responses, I have tried to change the assets using "AS92" transaction code but I am getting the following error message "Closed fiscal year does not agree with legacy data transfer date".

Also it is not possible to transfer the balances as these assets were created on 2004 year and in production we have thousands of assets to which this area 55 has to be deactivated. And Client is not agreeing with this work around.

So request all to please let me know any other work around or a proper solution which I can propose to my client.

Many thanks to all.

Syed,

Do Asset Transfer within the company code :- ABUMN.

and when you are doing the asset transfer, create a new asset with similar properties such as depreciation area, key, life. and when you create a new asset you will able to deactivate area 55.

This is the other work around for your requirement.

Hi Nishan,

We have only cone company code so asset transfer within company code is not applicable in our case.

Also I tried to change the posting key to '0000' for the area 55 but this area is unchangeable (grayed out) in the AS02.

So request all to please let me know any other work around or a proper solution which I can propose to my client.

Many thanks to all.

Syed,

1. Asset transfer within company code, it is Intracompany code transfer, I dont see any issue on that, why you say not applicable in your case ? this is a techincal step for working your requirement.

2. AS02 will always be grayed out, you need to access as92 and if system give error of trasfer date, change the transfer date, bring the transfer date to forward and make changes, after that again put back the transfer data to original, else your depreciation would be messed up.

See if this works !! for you.

Thanks,

Nishan

Hi,

   Please find the below comments

Now my client requirement is under a specific asset class they have 1000 assets (already created, capitalized long back) and in this class around 50 assets they don't want to have the depreciation area '55'.

In those Assets in which your client don't want to have depreciation area '55', then you have to      give Depreciation Key '0000' [No Depreciation & Interest] in Depreciation area '55', so that No      depreciation is calculated for that particular Depreciation area.

If those Assets are created through Legacy Data transfer, then you have to give the      Depreciation Key '0000' in Depreciation area '55' in Transaction Code-AS92.

Hi,

Regarding this as per my knowledge the Depreciation ARea can be deactivated only at the time of creation of asset and once the asset is created again option of Deactivating or Activating of Depreciation Area is not possible.

AS92 T-Code can be used for the transfer of Asset from Legacy Data to SAP which is not always possible as for new Company they can alwaysa use first system as SAP so question of Legacy Data does not arise.

The thing that you I can propose is to use T-Code ABUMN and transfer the whole balance of Asset into new Asset and while creating new Asset you deactivate the Depreciation Area you want to deactivate.

You can also do is change the Depreciation Key to zero percent Depreciation so by this also no depreciation will be calculated for that particular assets.

Kindly check.

Malhar.
