Dear All,

Currently we have ECC 6.0 with EHP4  running on Windows server 2003+ MicroSoft SQL server  2005 database with Kernel 701 .

Now i am confused while upgrading kernel 720

I already downloded the sapexe 720 &sapexdb 720 from service market place.

I read some where we need to download SAPHOSTAGENT FILE also it will replace exsiting saposcol ,any one explain me the usage of saphostagent and how it will replace earlier saposcol.

I know  the procedure of upgrading upto 701 kernel .but i am confusing kernel720 procedure.

Please suggest the procedure arre same or not kernel 701 and 720.

Thanks

Hello,

The Kernel 720 and above does not contian SAPOSCOL.
SAPOSCOL is now being part of SAPHOSTAGENT.
SAPHOSTAGENT is installed by default on 710 systems and above,
and this contains SAPOSCOL, ie. SAPOSCOL is integrated into
SAPHOSTAGENT.

There is a document attached to note 1031096 with all the details
regarding SAPHOSTAGENT:
# 1031096 - Installing Package SAPHOSTAGENT

The following link also contains further information:

I hope this information helps.

Hi

You need to confused with SAPHOST agent .

You carry out your kernel upgrade as your actual procedure .

SAPOSCOL is now completely replaced by SAPHOSTcontrol and SAPhostexe, which takes care of collecting OS data . Install  SMD agent 7.20 are above , which install SAPhostagent .

You can find the SAPhost agent files under C:/program files/SAP/...

Hi Bala,

Thanks for your response ,Please clarify the below  points. & if  i am going wrong please correct me

1)i need to download saphostagent file from service market place and need to install before  replacing kernel files in usr/sap/<sid>/sys/exe/run folder.

2)It means after repalcing kernel 720 SAPOSCOL service is not available in controlpanel?it will be availbale in c:/Programsfiles/sap

3)after upgrading also SAPHSOTAGENT will be located in C:/programfiles/sap?

Advance thanks

Hi ,

To install SAPHOST agent , for this link

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi711/helpdata/en/48/c6f9627a004da5e10000000a421937/content.htm

1) you can install SAPHOST agent , before or after replacing kernel

2) it depends, if you are copying new kernel files in old directory then SAPOSCOL will be avalable as of previous versions but other way 720 kernel is not delivered with SAPOSCOL .

3) SAPHOST agent creates seperate directory of "/sap/hostcntrl" , where you will find the SAPOSCOL

Hi SAP Basis,

follow steps in this note.

Note 1636252 - Installing a 7.20 kernel in SAP Web AS 7.007.017.107.11

it is having all steps to update kernel and host agent.

Thanks,

Hi

1.It is better to instal SAP Host Agent before kernel upgrade,if you install after u my experience some problem  like ST06 data is not updated.

2.And download all R3trans,R3load,TP,dw,dboralib files because it is better to have latest files.

Thanks

Hi All,

My final question, while updating kernel we need to upgrade JVM ? or we can upgrade later?

Thanks

Hi,

The following four bullet points apply only to Dual-Stack or Java only

systems:

o Release 7.00 or 7.01: There was an incompatibility regarding

jmon (SAP note 1652660). This has been eliminated with the

following versions of the SAP Tech S Offline component:

- Release 7.00: SAP TECH S 7.00 OFFLINE, SP 14, PL 24

- Release 7.01: SAP TECH S OFFLINE 7.01, SP 5, PL 20

This implies that at least support-package stack 14 or 5,

respectively, must be installed in your system.

Note 1652660 also lists the required patch levels for the higher

support packages.

o Release 7.00 or 7.01: The tool JSPM must have at least SP 24 or

9, respectively.

o Release 7.10 or 7.11: When using the SAPJVM 5.1, you have to

install the latest patch collection, at least PC 58 (Build

5.1.074).

o SAP Kernel 7.20 (EXT) should have at least Patch Level 201.

So as per prerequisites you need to update jvm first.

Thanks,

Venkat

Hi,

Hope you are doing good. The below links will help you if there are any queries with the

kernel update procedure:

SAP Note No. 1636252 - Installing a 7.20 kernel in SAP Web AS

                       7.00/7.01/7.10/7.11

SAP Note No. 1629598 - SAP Kernel 720 will replace older

                       kernel versions

SAP Note No. 19466   - Downloading SAP kernel patches

Also check:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-1206 (Manual Kernel Upgrade)

and

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/11219

(Kernel upgrade using JSPM)

You do not need to do a JVM upgrade ideally, but do read: SAP Note No. 1367498 - SAP JVM installation prerequisites.

Please follow SAP Note No. 1442124 and SAP Note No. 1133020 for this.

Thank you and have a nice day :).
