BPC 10.0 for NW - Questions about hierarchies

Former Member

Hi Experts,

We are evaluating BPC for NetWeaver 10.0 to support requirements of our customer, and some questions emerged:

1) Since it’s necessary to track historical changes, the model should support time dependant hierarchies. Apparently, BPC is not yet able to deal with this. Is there any way to activate this functionality in BPC 10.0? Is SAP planning to introduce this feature in a future release? And finally, is there any workaround that could be applied, without considerable development efforts?

2) Considering that we decide to build our model without the time dependant hierarchies, and use regular BPC hierarchies, is it possible to activate, in EPM add-in 10.0, hierarchy navigation using collapse and expand icons, like it’s possible in BEx or BO 4.0 Analysis, for example?

Any input will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Salva.

Hi Salva,

Time dependent hierarchies are still not available in BPC, and we don't know whether this is going to be introduced or not.

Coming to the navigation part, it is already available. You can double click on the parent members to drill down to its children. You can even change this behavior through sheet options.

Hope this helps.

Hi Nilanjan, tks for your quick response.

About the hierarchy navigation, the double click works fine, but it's not exactly the same thing as the expand/collapse icons functionality. The icons provide a little bit more of meaning, because you know if there are more levels to expand below one specific node just by looking at the screen.

About the time dependancy, would be great hear that SAP is planning this feature for a near future, once this is really important in certain planning scenarios.

Thanks a lot,

Salva.

Hello BPC Experts

I have implemented OSS note and not on SP09 . Regarding Time Dependent Hierarchy, Please follow OSS note # 1800842 with its step by step process. Main Steps:

Apply OSS notes if you are not on SP09

Maintain Configuration Steps from BW

  -

      -Hierarchy Cache setting :  AX_ACTIVE_HIER_SHM

     -  MAX_ACTIVE_HIER_DB :   Default value(parameter is NOT maintained) is 100( it is not required unless you have more than 100 hierarchy versions)

    -  Activate BI Content for SAP's default Appset/Environment: ENVIRONMENTSHELL with ONLY - " ACTIVATE BI BUSINESS CONTENT and UPDATE DEFAULT DM INSTRUCTIONS ( 2 BOXES only Applicable)

   - Pick an applicable  Dimension  and EDIT Structure and CHECK BOX on TIME DEPENDENT

  -  Open Dimension and change from VIW LIST  to HIERARCHY  then you can see Create Version and you will get current month CALENDER , Choose which ever period or Year you want to start with.

Rest Follow the OSS note

Usage:Consolidation  Re-statements,  Dynamic Product Reporting  etc

Good Luck

Thanks

Venkat
