SystemCopy of NetWeaver + ERP 6.0 with NetApp storage clone, MaxDB & Windows

Hi,

we have a NetWeaver 7.0 + ERP 6.0 system with MaxDB 7.7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 on VMware ESXi 4.1. Everything is on a NetApp storage system.

The database and LOG are on separate iSCSI LUNs, the operating system and SAPEXE are on separate virtual VMware hard drives (vmdk).

I want to install a new test system (system copy). With the NetApp system, it is possible to clone the database and LOG LUNs on storage level. I want to clone the database and LOG LUNs from a existing system and use them for the new test system.

Is that possible?

Can I clone a database and LOG on storage level and use it for a different system?

What is necessary after cloning? Change SID? Other tasks?

Thank you very much

Hi Ruven,

I dont think this method is supported. I would strongly recommend to stick only to the methods outlined in the system copy guides. You could use the db specific methods to restore a backup of the db for the new test system. You would still need to perform some tasks using sapinst.

Hope this helps.
