Coding Mask Query

Hi Techies,

I have following issue on coding mask.

Initially I was having coding mask.

J.X.XXXX.XX.X.X.X.00

So Project/WBS with this coding mask is already in Quality.

No i have made changes  to this coding mask as added one alpha numeric character in existing Code.

My point is it is not allowing to open my existing project in Quality then .

Actually coding mask allows to add in existing mask right?.but it is not working now.

Changed Coding mask

J.X.XXXX.XX.XX.X.X.00

Scenario is we have uploaded around 52 project WBs using this coding mask J.X.XXXX.XX.X.X.X.00 using Easy cut over tool.This is suitable only if their are Nine contracts in projects.

Now for two projects now we have requirement  to go next level as their are more  contract in it, more than Nine contracts so we need to make changes in existing coding mask to accomodate this.

But after transport to Quality it is not allowing to open those projects which where created with earlier coding mask though we had added only one alpha neumeric field in existing coding mask only.(J.X.XXXX.XX.XX.X.X.00).

Are we missing any step or transporting sequence.

What can be the possible way out.?

Hi Ajey,

Only conversion of numeric to alpha-numeric and extension of existing coding mask is allowed. Your change doesnt fit in this category so its not allowed. We should be very careful while changing existing coding masks as it can mess up the system. I think you are saved luckily as theres no transport to production.

Please go thru SAP note 453280; it will help you to delete old mask, create new mask and correct your projects. Hope this solves your issue.

Extention means.

J.X.XXXX.XX.X.X.X.00.X & not like what i have done 

J.X.XXXX.XX.XX.X.X.00. is it so.?

Thing is than I have to delet 52 project  WBs  in Quality,then Change mask again in Dev and  transfer to Quality and upload those  52 Project WBs again.is it  so.? .

Is their no way other than this.

Also do i need to delet project defination also (ie project also) since what we have done is we have uploaded project first (ie 52 project ) via upload programm for "Project Creation" and then we have uploaded WBS via Wbs upload programme which then gets uploaded in respective Projects as per coding mask maintain for different projects wbs.

Hi,

Yes, extension is adding new characters at end.

I dont think projects will have to be deleted. Please go thru the note. I guess your projects will become inconsistent and after correction you can open them. In correction mostly you will re-number the WBS, so your existing WBS XX.9.XX you will change manually to XX.09.XX and it will become consistent.

I had seen the note long back so above is what I recall. Please check the note and let me know if there is doubt - I can recheck further in that case.

Hi,

I have changed the the coding mask to J.X.XXXX.XX.XX.X.X.00 ind ev and  cretaed project their itself but after adding nine WBS  when i add 10th one it gets coding mask "%0000001" instead of J.X.XXXX.XX.10 we manually do it it takes then.

Why this "%0000001"comes then? initially  it was not comming.

Hi Ajey,

             It is not preferred to edit in existing coding mask. If you edit how you would be able to track the root identity of old projects?

Instead you should have gone for creating a new coding mask with the character which you have specified in your post.

try it by creating a new coding mask , transport to quality and check.

Note: kindly undo the changes done in QAS through old request .

Hi Ankur,

We need to change that character  that is what we have finalised "J" its stands for join contract containing nos of contracts.So we need to follow same nomenclature cannot use other character.
