Question on Record Selection in VS2008

13 Views

Hi. I'm used to programming in the Delphi language and I'm really new to the visual studio world. .

With Delphi, I basically overrode the Crystal Report selection formula, something similar to this:

string selectFormula = "({command.statustypeid} = 1)"

myReportViewer.SelectionFormula = selectFormula

I googled the selectionformula property and see references to this kind of code for VS2005 but have yet to see anything for VS2008. My question is concerning obsolete coding practices. What I want to do is have a Windows form for selecting data and pass that record selection criteria into the report. I can see that the reportViewer component still has a SelectionFormula property that is accessible in code. If I continue to override the selectionformula like this, will everything still work when I go to VS2010 and beyond? Is there a preferable way to control the record selection on a report when you don't want to use the built-in parameter forms of the embedded version of CR? This is a new application and the last thing I want to do is make it obsolete before it is even released. 😊

Thanks!
