Career advice- Move from ABAP to HANA or Fiori?

Dear Experts,
I am an experienced ABAP programmer with 10+ yrs of experience in USA right now.
I had learnt HANA modelling & development and am trying for HANA based jobs. I am not getting any ABAP based HANA based jobs at all.
Do i need to have an SAP BI/BW modelling background to get a job in HANA Modelling & development?
Also i am finding tough to get a jobs in SAP ABAP. What's happening to ABAP?
Do i also need to learn SAP Fiori?

Is my understanding correct? I am tired of learning

Lets see point by point...

I am not getting any ABAP based HANA based jobs at all. - ABAP is not used much in HANA modelling, SQL is used! So dont assume that such kind of jobs would exist!

Do i need to have an SAP BI/BW modelling background to get a job in HANA Modelling & development? - I dont think so.....but perhaps the knowledge will help you working with other technologies! With you the case might be that HANA relevant experience is less so the job opportunities are less. Try to find out projects where you will get the necessary experience with it. Be patient!

Also i am finding tough to get a jobs in SAP ABAP. What's happening to ABAP? - Nothing has happened...:) May be markets are low currently. If you have worked with ABAP in association of any other module like SAP BW, ECC like where customisations are done in ABAP....you should find something!

Do i also need to learn SAP Fiori? - Depends on your interest! Dont learn any technology just to stay up with the market! It doesn't help in long run....

I am tired of learning????? Sir with your level of experience you should have been well versed with different technologies yet I see you have only 1 technology! Learning is a constant process..it doesn't stop. If you are tired then might as well stop working! 🙂 Its my personal suggestion, no hard feelings!

Yes. HANA modelling & Development is based on SQL and no ABAP is involved & that's why ABAP cannot be considered for that.

HANA modelling & Development is helpful for SAP BI/BW background guys as they work on some modelling aspects.

ABAP can be considered for development in S/4 HANA..etc only & that too on eclipse editor(CDS views development) which is quite different from native ABAP workbench.

In SAP Fiori, ABAP need is just for the NW gateway services only. UI5 & HTML is not for ABAPer again as they are into front end.

So ABAP scope is getting reduced & also what i am seeing is that most of the ABAP development work is outsourced(out of USA).

To conclude - Whatever new technology comes, we learn & we need to show at least 2 or 3 yrs of experience to get the first job & they don't care even if you have total IT experience of 10 or 20 yrs. So you are treated as fresher and your career is back to square one.
