E-Pedigree - use of ONS

Hi,

Paul mentioned a procjet called "E-Pedigree"

which stores history of tags

my few questions:

- does it store changing locations of the tag for instance? (what kind of history can it store?)

- will / can it be used with ONS - object name server (to get the updated data) and not only send the data from the database with shipping notification?

- has anyone seen working RFID project that uses ONS to get the data from the tag?

Hi Michal,

ONS, Object Name Service, hasn't really been deployed to any degree at this time. This is mainly due to the need to have working EPCIS(s) which is under standards development within EPCglobal. Currently, the HLS action group does not require in their first phase to have an operating EPCIS or ONS, but expect it to exist in the future. Companies may be "playing" in this area, but most are exchanging information between 2 parties and not amongst/between a "virtual" community.

I just heard of ONS and EPCIS. as far as I understand, these are not yet available and it is not required by law.

In florida, by law, pedigree of class (?) drug is required sometime in 2006. - I forgot which class... In addtion, more states are requiring pedigree in few years. E-Pedigree using RFID tag comes in very handy with this "pedigree" thing. matter fact, we just had quite significant achievement on this that I cannot talk about yet. But stay tuned.

Hi,

1. It records the tag (or serial) #. associated with it's manufactured date, sales info, ship place, and etc. so they can track where this tag has been and currently is.

2. & 3. I'm not familiar with ONS... so I cannot answer this.

The challenge is, the server which holds the information is not ours. it's a central location for us and buyers (or whole seller) so we can record movement of the tag. that make us send such information via XML. in addition, we'll need to consolidate information that is splited in R/3 and EM server.
