MDM Import Manager

Hi,

I am getting to grips with the Import manager but have some questions about the map fields and match records tab.

1: In the map fields tab, under the value conversions in the bottom pane. Sometimes there are green circles indicating nothing needs to be done, sometimes I get the mapped indicator and sometimes nothing at all leaving the mapping up to me... can someone explain why this is? What determines whether the fields needs to be mapped etc...?

2: Under the match records tab sometimes the default import actions pane is grey out and unavailable? Do you know why this is? Is there some blog or something explaining this tab functionality and even on the import manager itself

Thank you in advance!

Vince

Hi Vince,

I will reply to your queries one by one:

1: In the map fields tab, under the value conversions in the bottom pane. Sometimes there are green circles indicating nothing needs to be done, sometimes I get the mapped indicator and sometimes nothing at all leaving the mapping up to me... can someone explain why this is? What determines whether the fields needs to be mapped etc...?

  • When it is indicated by Green circles, then your field type is Text, Numeric or some other type but not Lookup[Flat] or Lookup Qualified etc.

So it does not search for any value to which source value should be mapped but instead converts the value based upon Value conversion filters(if any)           and indicates the successful conversion by Green circle.

  • When it shows mapped indicator, then your field type is Lookup and it maps the source value to the destination value and shows mapped symbol.

This mapping is done based upon Remote System keys. If you have maintained remote system keys then system will automatically map the values           otherwise will leave the value mapping to you.

  • Another reason of mapping happening automatically would be that for once you had mapped the values manually and then saved the map. So when you again load same source values, it will map them automatically.

2: Under the match records tab sometimes the default import actions pane is grey out and unavailable? Do you know why this is? Is there some blog or something explaining this tab functionality and even on the import manager itself

  • As explained by Ganapathi, Default Import action tab will be enabled only when you have maintained at least one field as "Matching field".

Otherwise it will appear as greyed out if you do not have any Matching field. And you can search for Import Manager Reference Guide on google and           you will find all the functionality for Import manager in it.

Let me know if you have any doubts. Thank you.

Hi Vince,

1) To counter first issue, there's always an option called "Automap" where source fields are automapped to Destination fields(provided destined values exist in lookup table). Once you perform field mapping for lookup fields- value mapping must be performed as well. If you do not want to perform field mapping everytime you open source file, its recommended you save the MAP once. so that next time when you open the source field there is an option called Open map. This will open the saved MAP and will not prompt for field/value mapping again, unless new values are added.

2) Default import action is enabled only when match record field is selected. Unless any matching field is selected default import action will be grayed out. Match record field is unique and based on that records are imported into MDM. Default import action will be enabled and would give options that can be best selected based on your requirement.

Options like: Skip, create,Update(Null fields only), Update(All mapped fields).

Hope this information helps.

Hi,

1. When you first Map the Source field to Destination field of type Lookup or Hierarchy then the Value mapping is enabled for this fields in the lower grid

Ex: Source Field                                   Destination Field

       Country(field)           <Mapped>        Country(field)

For this field the value mapping becomes Mandatory as the destination field is of type lookup and represents a set of legal values.

2. Defalut Import action pane is enabled when you select a matching Field (This is the Field which the system will compare with the existing data to find the already existing records based on the selected field.)

Eg: If Material number is selected as the Matching field, The system will run a check with the data present in the Data manager and will show the the Match type (Exact/none/Partial..etc) Default import action pane.

Until the Matching field is selected the Default Import action Pane is Grayed Out
