CTS Transport with different versions

Hi Experts,

I just want to confirm this type of scenario. Let say CTS+ is applied for object transport means either PI or Enterprise Portal. Your development Environment is Netweaver 7.31 and your QA and Prod is somehow got a lower version (PI 7.1 or netweaver 7.0). Objects are created in Development environment and ready for transport in QA. Would there be any issues that will happen to tranport or would it be successful?

Base from my understanding, it can possibly be tranported but the question is would it function to the system that has a lower product version.

Just need your opinion about this.

Thanks for the inputs everyone.

Instead of using CTS+, I tried importing the *.epa files from the server. 2 different systems (7.31 and 7.01) and this is what I've observed and found while importing manually.

*.epa from 7.31 to 7.01 = not possible (error/s encountered)

*.epa from 7.01 to 7.31 = possible (no errors encountered)

For PI specific. I already had an idea before hand since I've done several migration projects (XI 3.0 to PI 7.1 and XI 3.0 to PI 7.30). So technically speaking same idea would happen with the objects but not to the extent. For PI there are certain things that needs to be considered prior to transport.

Lastly, ideally landscape DEV>>QA>>PRD should have the same version. But at least having a certain scenario like this can be planned ahead of time and risk mitigation will be considered.

(This is just based from my what I have experienced. Comments and suggestions are welcome).

As from my thread above, I was thinking that it would be successful (in terms of transport) but functionality (will it work?)

I  think there might be a chance for inconsistency for with functionality because when upgrade our systems from 7.0 to 7.1 or 7.3  we face so many inconsistency in couple of scenario like proxy to file and rfc scenarios also. and some mapping errors also.

Hi R-jay,

As per my understanding CTS+ will be installed centrally , Generally CTS+ will installed on pre-production, So there will no issues with transport. Let's wait for expert comments for more understanding.

You are correct transporting of objects will be supported but the new features like(WS-RM ,ICO & message packaging , lookup's  etc ) will not supported by your QA system . If we transport our newly developed objects(involving new features of PI 7.3) , we can't activate these objects in QA environment bcz those features were not supported by old version.
