how to initiliaze the product view for the first time products

Dear Experts,

We trying to use the temporary low level codes during SNP Heuristics. We execute the SNP heuristics with option of redeterming the temporary low level codes in transaction /SAPAPO/SNP01. During this process we get some information messages - that Pegarea is not defined for product XXX at location YYY. But the job will be successfull.

How ever when we run the same transaction in foreground mode; this message becomes as an error message and terminates; but just a information message in background mode.

When we investigated; it is found that pegid is missing for this combination in table - /SAPAPO/PEGKEY. We executed OM17 and other programs like - /SAPAPO/DM_PEGKEY_REORG, /SAPAPO/OM_TB_PEGAREA_CREATE; but the pegid is still missing.

Later we found that this product was interfaced firsttime to APO and there are no elements on the product view. Also in the product view; we can see only two tabs

Note: We do run the heuristics with product as generic selection and given the location.

When I went into the change mode; I get the following message -

I say yes and create a dummy forecast element and delete it immediatly. I then save it and see all the other tabs.

Also I now see the pegid is created for this combination in the table /SAPAPO/PEGKEY. Now the SNP heuristics don't get any message either in foreground or background.

Question here: -> Given the possibility of many products introduced; how do we address this? Or is this something should have initilized with first time product master CIF which is not doing in our system? or is there any standard program which needs to be executed right after CIF?

Any comments please?

Regards,

Reddy.

Reddy,

In a normal planning system, if there are no orders (either supply or demand or stock) against a particular product/location, then a pegging area is irrelevant, since there is nothing to peg.  Also, normally, when the first order is entered (again; either supply or demand or stock) the pegging area is automatically created.

SAP has chosen not to initialize pegging areas until they are actually required.  I suspect this is for performance reasons - the larger the number of //PEGKEY entries, the slower the system will be.

Unless you have a compelling reason to create pegging areas when a product location is first created, I suggest you leave the pegging areas un-initialized.

I have seen a customer ("Z") program that will initialize pegging areas (there was a compelling reason!).  SAP also released a program years ago for one of the old versions, which I believe will mass create pegging areas AS A CORRECTION FOR A PREVIOUSLY RELEASED PROGRAM ERROR.  https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/408269 I don't know if this program still works in current versions; try only at your own risk.

Thanks DB.

Yes; we see those corrections are available in 7.0 as well. But it looks like SNP uses different FM to read the pegging areas as part of heuristics; which doesn't have an option to create the missing peagging areas where as PPDS does.

I will explore to see any notes and also raise it to SAP.

Reddy,

I inadvertently posted the wrong note.  The actual note is 408269, which is not a correction but contains a repair program, designed for APO 2.0..

Again, I recommend that you do not pursue this path; however, if you do wish to do so, I have seen the Z program called out in the note working in an SCM 5.0 system; I can't say if it also works in a higher release...

Hi Reddy - You can use this program - /SAPAPO/SAPRRP_NETCH to create peg ID's in your system and this should avoid pegarea issues. Please check the check box 'create Pegging areas' and uncheck 'With planning file entry'.

Would advise to run this program on a daily basis and that should take care of pegarea for newly created products.

Hope this helps.
