Hi All
I am on SAP BO 4.0 SP4 Patch3. I am in the Information Design Tool and trying to create a new Relational Connection. I have selected the 'SAP Java Connector (JCo)' and the wizard then gives me the following error:
Error:
[Data Federator Driver] Unexpected exception: com.crystaldecisions.thirdparty.org.omg.CORBA.UNKNOWN: null | [Data Federator Driver] Failed to connect to any of the provided 'Central Management Server' hosts.
Cause of Error
Unexpected exception: com.crystaldecisions.thirdparty.org.omg.CORBA.UNKNOWN: null
All of the servers in the CMC are shown as running and enabled.
Does anyone know which server / service should be receiving this request from the IDT and responding?
Any ideas on the cause of the problem?
Thanks
Al.
Hi McEwan,
DataFederator service will be hosted by Adaptive Processing server.
Refer the below SAP note ; Might be helpful.
1690334 - Unable to create or test connection in Information Design Tool
Thanks
Pappu

Did you find a fix for this.. We also have the same issue and we have removed and recreated the APS, but it has not been of any help.

Hi,
Perhaps you misunderstooed the Note 1690334 - it's the Data Federator service (within the APS) that needs recreating, not the whole APS - that's overkill.
Are you familiar with the APS sizing best practice doc ? http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-31711
It would also be good to know which SP and Patch you are running.
Whilst we're at it, these notes are very useful for your next steps:
Log into the Central
Management Server (CMC)
Stop the Adaptive
Processing Server
Under Host
Identifier, Select HostName
Enter the machine
name where the or the Adaptive processing server.
Then you need to
start the Adaptive processing server.
Go to Data Federation
Administration and and configure
ProgramIDMapping
(MYHOST.AdaptiveProcessingServer=DF_JCO_MYHOST)
GatewayServiceName
GatewayHostname
Save the connection
Restart the adaptive
processing server as it may retain previous connections resulting in a “dead
server state”.
Go to BW transaction
SMGW -> Extra -> Security functions
Click: Display files
-> Generate files
Generate the
REGINFo.dat and SECINFO.dat files
Explicitly set the
transactional program - in this case the programIDMapping defined in the Data
Federation Tool to that it is allowed to register with the gateway.
Edit the reginfo file
created as per KBA 1755433 and add the line:
P TP=*
HOST=<server as per ProgramIDMapping> CANCEL=* ACCESS=*

Henry/Pappu,
Apologize for the late reply.. We have been having several BI4.0 server issues and troubleshooting each one is taking a lot of our resources.
Apparantly recreating the DF APS resolved the issue and the note "1690334 - Unable to create or test connection in Information Design Tool" helped.
We did follow the APS Best Practice guide and also had an SAP Support personnel review the same.
We are on SP4 Patch3.
Thank you again!
