We have done a system refresh on our quality server from production backup .But after the system refresh the database is inconsistent.

we have done the resotration by copying file by file ( flat file restoration ) as we dont have much space to do the resotration by brtools.

The database strucutre of Production and Quality is diffrent in one of the database folder.

Production -   pro/oracle/sapdata1/sr3701x_1 ,sr3701x_2,sr3701x_3,but in Quality these sr3701x_1 datafiles are in /oracle/sapdata4/sr3*..

can any tell me where I should copy the sr3701* database files from production to quality..?

should I create a new folders for sr3701x_*  in quality in sapdata1.?

Hi,

We have done a system refresh on our quality server from production backup .But after the system refresh the database is inconsistent.

Then either your backup is not properly done or your restore was not properly done.

we have done the resotration by copying file by file ( flat file restoration ) as we dont have much space to do the resotration by brtools.

Err, could you tell me how is it posible that a "file by file" restore takes "less" space than using BRTOOLs?, probably you missed some files.

I do recommend you to drop whatever you have done and done it again; this time using a proper backup tool (BRTOOLS) or making sure that you have copied ALL the files.

And you are copying to a different structure.

HOW can you expect us to GUESS what files are you copied and what have you not copied if you show us the content of one directory in production and the content of ANOTHER directory in quality

Hi Fidel,

Thanks for the reply.

I just want to show you that database directory structure is diffrent in Quality and Production.

Ex. sr3701* directories in production server are located in sapdata1 folder where as in quality these sr3701* directories  are stored in sapdata4 folder.

my question was where should I copy these sr3701* data files from production to quality/sapdata1 or sapdata4.

thanks.

Hi,

1.- I assume you understand the concept of "backup" and "recovery"

2.- I assume that, when you copy the files the production database is shutdown (otherwise, the files will be inconsistent)

3.- I assume you realize that you are changing the D structure and some actions are required afterwards.

clearly, you did not understood what I said about "GUESSING" as you continue asking for that

Regarding point one, you MUST copy ALL files belonging to the database in production to the quality.

That is what it means to do a BACKUP/RESTORE and YOU have not done it, because you are telling us that files are missing.

If files from production are missing then the quality is inconsitent.

So, please do a proper backup and a proper restore on the production. (OFFLINE or ONLINE and recover it)

You can put them whereever you like and have the space, as long as

- you copy all datafiles belonging to the DB

- create a valid controlfile after the copy with the correct location of these files on the target
