WBS element creation assistance

Hi All,

I am new to PS and I could use some help! I am trying to create a new WBS element for an existing project and I thought that I could do it but there are some errors and I don't know what I did wrong!

The Mechanical and Electrical WBS buckets were already in the project and I want to add the Apps Lab I created the WBS but when I try to add an activity under it I am getting a Network header instead. Also, you will notice that the system (or maybe me!) created a new network number of 7000380 when I want this to be under the existing 7000363 network. What have I done wrong? I don't know how to correct this any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Nancy,

Click on your existing network and then create activity. Further drag this new activity to AAPS LAB WBS. You will achieve what you want

By this method you will first create activity in existing network and the assign it to required WBS. Hope this solves your issue.

Shrikant

Hi Nancy,

Whatever you did is right. However, whenever you create a new activity under a WBS system will create a corresponding network. This is because the network has got all the control data for the activities.

To correct what you have done you can try to delete the network and the associated activity, ofcourse, if the status of the network and activity permit you to do this. Assuming that you are able to delete both network and activity, add a new activity and this time drag the activity and drop it on the network you want. Create as many activities as you want like this and once you are done you can then drag each activity in the structure and assign it to the required WBS.

Second case - Assuming you are not able to delete the network. If its ok with you and your business, let the network be there in the structure but make sure you have set a status that does not allow this network to be used elsewhere. Alternatively you can put a description for this network, preferably in bold letters e.g. DO NOT USE just to make sure nobody creates any activities under this network.

One more tip. Try all this in the test system first and when you are comfortable do it in the live system.

Hope this helps.

Hi Nancy,

You are doing right. System is creating Network to bridge the gap of Activity& WBS.

A network consists of the following:

1.Activities

2.Activity elements

3. Relationships

This is basic concept.

Try to create project in Dummy server first.

Please go through below given links which will help you in understanding PS concept.

Hi Nancy,

Nothing to worry. Try to drag and drop the Network or WBS as per your requirement.
