Installation of Crystal Reports XI R2 SP6 fails on client computer

We use the latest merge modules provided by SAP to install the Crystal Reports XI R2 SP6 on our clients' computers and have hardly had any issues. On one of our clients' computer however the installation rolls back very near to the end. When I study the log I find the following error message:

Error 1904. Module C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\3.5\crystalreportviewers115\ActiveXControls\CRViewer.dll failed to register.  HRESULT -2147024891.  Contact your support personnel.

I could not find a physical crwiewer.dll on the computer that might interfere. I did not search the registry for refences to this .dll.

No virusscanner is active.

OS is WinXP SP3

Our programm works without errors otherwise.

How can I troubleshoot this? Thanks!

In a nut shell, there is some runtime dependency missing on that computer.

Download the Depends utility and open the crviewer.dll in it. See what Depends reports as a missing dependency.

Be sure the install is being done by a user that has admin rights.

See if detailed install logging will tell you anything;

The problem is that the installation rolls back so no copy of the crviewer.dll is left behind. Can I just copy and paste the dll from a computer on which the installation did succeed?

Yeah, let's try that. Just copy the crviewer.dll - system32 folder will be good. Then see what Depends tells you.
