no alerts after restart of the system ?!

Hi,,

Any Idea, why alerts stopped working, no email alert or alert inbox alert in RWB after restart of the system. This alert was working perfectly fine before restart; what could probably be wrong?

check if alert rule is active in rwb->Alert Configuration.

for purpose of testing, uncheck "Supress Multiple Alerts".

yes alert rule is active and i unchecked " Supress Multiple Alerts " but no luck.

is there anything called expiration time on the Alert Cat.

i see related thread here http://scn.sap.com/thread/1548137

I believe expiration time is not on the alert category. It is for the alerts generated for an alert category. So, there is no expiry for alert category.

Please create a new alert rule for the category you want to test. Run the report SXMSALERT_ALERT_TEST and check if the alert is generated or not. I think the report SXMSALERT_ALERT_TEST picks up all active alert rules and generates test alerts.

Also, check the configuration on Alert recipients. Do you have fixed recipients ? or role based? Check if you are part of the recipients.

I deleted and created rules many time; but again nothing comes up. i'm using role based alerts; also i tried fixed recipients to test.. nothing works..

i don't know the root cause.. i think i will have to redo everything.. just deleting the old ones..

how are you triggering the alerts.. is it by sending something a message, that fails in some pipeline step or adapter engine.

in alert rule, what you have mentioned in the "conditions" section and "where did the error occur" section.

the alert rule is assigned to which alert category.

after you trigger failed message, what does the tcode ALRTDISP say for your alert category.

Jagdishwar; the first place my alerts should never work, if there is any configuration problem.. but alerts worked before. what made it to stop working after restart, no clue..

and nothing shows up in tcode ALRTDISP.. what does this means? thanks for your help.

Are you sure the alerts were triggered? One option is to manually generate alerts by using the report SXMSALERT_ALERT_TEST. See if the alerts generated are available in RWB inbox or not. If the alerts are generated, then you know there is an issue with application triggering the alerts...

Nageshwar; yes it was very much working; i was testing until the system restart; after that it stopped working.. i did test using the report: RSALERTTEST  and i see email generated and alert in my RWB inbox.

but when i executed the report SXMSALERT_ALERT_TEST; i did not see any alerts in my RWB inbox.

Can you check if the alert rule for the alert category you are looking for is disabled by any chance?

is there anywhere the rule can be disabled other than RWB? in RWB the Rule is Active.

Hello!

Please execute the report SXMSALERT_LOGREADER and check if are there entries from after the restart.

If not, please check for RFC connection errors from both ABAP logs and also JCO (on ...cluster/server<x>). Search for the logs called  DEV_JRFC*.trc. This will show RFC connection issues from Java to ABAP.
