Dynamic system alias on data model

Former Member

Hi all,

during GW data model creation the system alias to point to (local or remote system) has to be provided. Is it possible instead to determine runtime the system alias to use dynamically? I searched documentation but I have not found nothing that can help me...

Thanks in advance to who will reply me

Hi Angelo

There is in SP04 of the gateway a enhancement spot BAPI in package

/IWFND/MGW_INSTANCE_MANAGER that was included for precisely what you are looking for.  I have not tested it yet (we are scheduled to) but it is supposed to allow you to execute code at the time the look-up of the system alias is performed to allow you to select a different one or reduce the list of available aliases based on your criteria.

Hope this helps

Hi Angelo,

Can you please tell me a little more? For example, using SAP NetWeaver Gateway 2.0 SP2, when you generated a service using either BOR or RFC, the system alias was also part of the service itself. This made it a little problematic when you transported it.

Starting with SP3 and above, the system alias was used to just point to the BOR or RFC to get the required information about it's API. Once you generated it, you could go to transaction /iwfnd/maint_service and point that same service to a different system alias and as long as the API of the function module being used was the same, the service would work getting information from the different source.

Hope this helps.
