DTR a versioning system?

Former Member

Hi,

as far as I know, DTR maintains DIFFERENCES, so there is IMHO not a real versioning, as for example compared with CVS, where you can go back to a certain version (number). In DTR you can, AFAIK only check out versions upto a certain date.

Is there any way to work, in DTR, with version numbers?

If you request the Version Graph for a file, you can right click a version and select "Sync to this Version".

This works for resources, like for a specific file. But will it work for workspaces? Say you want to roll-back or revert to a previous state of an application?

How would you do that in another versioning system like CVS for example?

Hi Pascal,

You just choose the tagged project (e.g. version 1) which you want to revert to.

Again, it is possible to revert back from a file level in DTR. But I couldn't figure out how to revert back on a workspace level.

Hi Erik,

There is no revert command wherein you go back to a previous state of a workspace. However can you not propagate changes from another workspace to the current workspace.

I mean you already have the active and inactive workspaces. You can then propagate changes from the active workspace to the inactive one to restore to the last known active state.

I know this is not a direct way but then i feel this can be used effectively.

Please give your suggestions and lets try to compare DTR against other versioning tools.

This actually requires some extra interaction with the versioning system: Create the tags. The DTR provides an active and inactive workspace for this, you could see the active workspace as a moving tag...

Hi Sidharth,

Thanks for the suggestion. Can you post the link, preferably from help.sap.com, on how to create active and inactive workspaces in DTR? Many thanks!

Our developers briefly showed me the tagging features of CVS. It is quite better than DTR. CVS is able to revert back to a previous state of a software component... up to the file level.

Just a note - A software component can consist multiple files in it.

Any plans from SAP to add this capability to DTR?

Hi Erik,

Workspaces are automatically created when you create a TRACK in CMS. Would request you to please go though this link for the complete process:
