Project transfer: some documents missing

Hi All,

I have transferred project from Solman EHP1 SP27 to Solman 7.1 SP4. The transfer went well and i can able to see the project details.

But when i try to find the number of documents via SOLAR01 -> Menu -> Find Document in the source and target system. I see there is difference in number of the documents.

Source system says: ~7600

Destination system says: ~6300

What might be the issue..? isnt the Project transfer suppose to transfer all the documents..?

Hi Rohan,

There could be a few reasons for that.

The first I can think of is the possibility that some of these documents were simply unassigned to any node of the project so they were physically stored in the project's folder( this way the find document would find'em) and during the transport the system didn't carry the unused documents (I'm not sure if it collects all the documents in the physical folder or just the ones used in the project)

You may check this with the report SOLMAN_UNUSED_DOCUMENTS

Second thing that comes to my mind is the possibility of using template projects or shortcuts/links/references to other projects/solutions. I'm not completely sure on the way data is collected for transport but maybe  some references were not pointing to documents in that project initially. I'm not sure if this could really happen, I would have to test it.

Other case would be you've just transported in one language and documents in other language would not be carried or you've transported without notes.

There is also the possibility that something went wrong but this is very unlikely if you didn't receive any kind of error message and the transport was just carried fine.

Update: The KBA "1773804  - Unused documents are not transported along with the project" was created just to reflect this behaviour. It should be released soon.
