HANA UI Toolkit

Hi all,

as of HANA SP4 you can use the XS Engine in order to develop applications on top of HANA with the HANA UI Toolkit for INA as mentioned in the SAP documentation. However, we are on Revision 35 and I have done the steps in documentation of SAP, but the epm demo does not work. So far I have found the documents from the HANA Code Jam that was organized by the Enterprise Geeks. From the documents I have found out that the URL to call the html webpages from XS engine are different as mentioned in the official SAP documentation . Anyway, I have adjusted it and now the demo worksa little bit, but not perfect. I have wondered if there is an update of the demo availble, so I have tried to become a member of the Hana UI Toolkit group on Code Exchange, butin the discussion some ask how to participate in this group, the answer was, that since this software becomes official part of HANA no one outside can become a member.

No I wonder, how can I solve this issue. The official documentation is not 100% correct and the group is closed for SAP internals.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best Regards,
Marcel

Hi Marcel,

Are you working on CloudShare or AWS instance? If you happened to work on the Cloudshare environment, please note that there is some data to be imported in the backend and provisioned to your HANA userID.

I am working on an AWS instance. I am unable to consume the Hana UI toolkit http url. Ca you please let me know the data that has to be imported and the rights that needs to be provisioned to my HANA user id.

Thanks, Rocky.

I did all the steps as mentioned in the aforementioned blog, but to no avail. Since you mentioned that

"If you happened to work on the Cloudshare environment, please note that there is some data to be imported in the backend and provisioned to your HANA userID."

I was wondering whether I had to do some extra/specific settings on the aws instance that I own. The URL - http://<HANAhost>:8000/sap.bc.ina.demos.epm/search.html just hangs.

Thanks,

Vishal

Hi Vishal,

The documentation has been updated, and it seems that you can cnow import your own datasets from the Studio without having to have the Admin imports the data manually to the backend system.

Please also note that it is running on port 8000 which means that you have to open that in the security group for your AWS instance. I hope this helps

Hi Vishal,

Im working on our local HANA System. However, I have opened an OSS message. It seems that they have adjusted the documentation on help.sap.com. There were some errors resp. differences between older revisions and the current revision 35.

But thanks so far for your help.

Cheers,
Marcel

Thanks, Rocky.

I feel the issue would be with the firewall configuration group.I will have to open the necessary ports

Thank, Marcel. I guess the issue is with the firewall rules on AWS.

Hello vishal,

Were you able to see the home page of the XS engine, when we type the URL "

http://<HANAhost>:8000/'...?? I am also trying the same thing but i am not able to see the home page

of XS engine. Could you please help me out..?

Hi Prasanna,

I also use HANA on AWS and wasn't able to call the http://<HANAhost>:8000/ status website of the XS Engine.

Vishal had the right idea (see his comment below), there is an issue with the firewall rules on AWS. Port 8000 (or port 80xx at all) is blocked by default.

In order to be able to call the XS Engine via http you need to add an additional firewall rule in AWS management console:

1.) Log in to AWS management console

2.) Navigate to the EC2 Console Dashboard

3.) On the left menu, select the correct Region and then under "NETWORK & SECURITY" (still on the left menu) select "Security Groups"

4.) Select the SAP HANA Security Group

5.) Select the "Inbound" tab

6.) Create a new rule by selecting "Custom TCP rule", type in port 8000 (or 80xx where xx is the number of your HANA instance) and keep the default value in field "Source" (should as be the same as the IPs of the existing rules) -> Click button "Add Rule" to save the rule.

7.) You're done and calling the XS-Engine should now be possible.

I have a question regarding all of this and I'm really hoping one of you can help.  I am using use.cloudshare.com for my hana developement.  I am trying to run the simple "hello world" js app.  I am able to the XS engine page when I type:  http://uvo13plhjr6pcr77wny.vm.cld.sr:8000  just find.  However, when I type the name of the xsjs app I built,  it asks me for a user name and password.  I type in the user name and the password of the connection that I created from the studio with the database that I created the app and it continues to say cannot find page. Any ideas where I might be messing up?
