Selective deletions in Infocube and DSO

Hi Experts,

I have a requirement where our Basis is performing Re-org in BW.

For this I have to delete the data which is older than 13 months from all the data models( Cubes, DSO's) which I have list of.

Now when I delete the contents from DSO with selective deletions in fiscal year period it would delete from active data table.

I need to delete the same consistently in all the tables Change log and new data table as well.

How can  I achieve this.

Selective deletion from Infocubes.

When I do selective deletion from cube it would delete from fact table. How would it delete the same selections from Dimensions.

I need to delete the same all the dimension tables and fact table and if view needs to be deleted as well.

Please advise so that I have consistent deletion.

Thanks,

Santhosh.

Selective deletion is only possible on Active Table of DSO.

Likewise, if you delete data selectively from an InfoCube, the aggregate belonging to this InfoCube is automatically deleted.

You receive a list of all InfoCube characteristics and can determine restrictions on these characteristics. Fact table records that correspond to these restrictions are deleted.

Hello Ananya,

Thanks for the response. I have deleted the contents of the fact table with the restrictions fiscal year period already. my question is how can I delete the dimensions for the same selections I have deleted from  Fact table.

I checked the data in each Dimension tables of the Cube I find the data.

How would I delete those for the selection on fiscal year period from the dimension tables or is it not needed.

As I have to all the data which is older then 13 months from now

How would I achieve the consistency

.

Thanks,

Santosh -

Are you going to reload data that has a different structure/format than the ones now?

Then it will make sense to delete the dimension data, otherwise not.

It is useful not to delete the dimension tables is when you are reloading correct data daily.

One typical example is when you don't want to (or you can't) handle delta process and are reloading the cube in full daily (works with limited volumes). Most of the data may remain unchanged between two loadings, which means most of the dimension table entries should also not change. Keeping these dimension tables instead of deleting them between each loading will reduce the need of write operations on the database, as the SID's are already there in the dimension tables. The loading performances should be better.

Same logic is true if you're making testings in a preproduction system and are only changing the loading flow of the key figures. as your characteristics won't be impacted by loading flow changes on key figure side only, you'll get better performances by keeping your characteristics in the dimension tables between two change.

As Babu has rightly suggested, the best way will be to right-click on the Info Cube and select "Delete Data" and check the option Facts and Dimensions when prompted.

This way, the info cube is fully clean - you have no facts as well dimension data.

The selective deletion can also be achieved through a process chain i.e "Delete_Facts"

Please let me know if you may need nore highlights.

Thanks Ananya,

I am not reloading any new data which has new structure.

I need to clean up the data which is older than 13 months from BW hence I am trying to be deleting all the tables of the cube and DSOs.

I cannot delete the whole content as I cannot make selections.( data older than 13 months).

Thanks,

Santhosh.

Hi Satish,

Deletion Of DSO data.

u can delete Active data table data through selective deletion.

To delete Change log table data- create one process chain and maintain the variant.

Manual Procedure to delete the Change log tables-

DSO -> Environment -> Delete Change Log data, chose date and delete requests.

No need to delete the data in New data table becoz whenever Data activated in the dso New data table will be freed by moving the data from NDT to ADT and Change log tables.

Deletion of IC data.

Right click on the IC-->delete data

Then it will prompt u one dialog window. Here we get two options.

1.Facts only

2.Facts and dimensions

In your case select 2nd option.

Tcode:Delete_facts

Once we delete the entries in Fact and Dim tables, then aggregates data also deleted.

Hello Babu,

Thanks for the response, But I wanted to do selective deletion in the Infocube not to delete the whole content where we can delete dimensions as well.

I have deleted the data which is 13 mnths older from now by selective deletion on fiscal year period.

Will this be enough or do I need to even delete the data from dimensions as well.

I think I have delete even dimension tables as well??

Thanks,

Santhosh
