How to make "Equipment" field in Object tab of PM order as Required Field?

Dear Experts,

I have a situation here where my client needs the "Equipment" field in the Object tab of PM order via IW31, to be Required Field (Mandatory).

I did try to search in SPRO> PM & CS > Maint. & Service Orders > Define Field Selection for ... but failed.

Does anyone here got any idea?

You would either need to create a transaction valiant (SHD0).

Or you could develop a solution, say via user-exit IWO10009 (at save event), or via BADI e.g. WORKORDER_UPDATE

I tried to use SHD0, but couldn't find any field for "Equipment" in the Object tab.

Therefore, I tried to use user-exit IWO10009 but there's no source code for me to do any modification.

Is it that I need to do the coding from scratch?

The reason my client want the equipment field to be "required" field as they want the reporting at Equipment level, hence, they don't want any maintenance cost bypass any equipment (or rather at Functional location only).

We use the equipment field in the Object tab instead of Header tab, because there's a scenario where there're more than 1 equipment in the same PM order.

    Hi Abraham,

A small doubt, can you please explain why do you/client need that Equipment field is as required field?

Peter is right, you can fulfill your requirement by Transaction & Screen Variant creation via SHD0.

I have done quick test in my sandbox and it seems to work fine.

Well then such a requirement cannot be catered through you are not even creating notification for each individual object list can create default notification for every object list entry but still may not use it if the solution is acceptable.

Otherwise you can get in touch with technical consultants of your team and ask them to build a code in the BADI IWO1_SCREEN_MODIFY. This BADI can be used to hide, grey out, make certain field mandatory for orders. They will be able to code and make that field mandatory.
