EHP1 Installation - Java Instance ID and the one calculated from the box number do not match

Hi,

I am carrying out an EHP Installation on an SAP Netweaver 7.0 dual-stack system. Target Release is SAP Netweaver 7.0 EHP1.

In the Analysis Results Check step for the Java Instance, I am receiving the following error:

The detected Instance ID ID29496 and the one calculated from the box number ID51830 do not match. A possible reason for that is that you have changed the box number in the central instance instance.properties file.

This is a system copy (was moved from one host to another) with same SID and Java Instance ID. I referred to SAP Notes 1156185 and 966752 and restored the box number to the original box number in the configtool and restarted the system.

I restarted the SUM tool and an still receiving this error.

Any ideas on a workaround ?

Regards

Niamh Griffin

    Hello Niamh,

Please go through 1644265 - How to determine the correct box number of the
    instance,

Make sure you have same value for box number in Property sheet instance.properties.IDXXXXXXX of configtool and instance.properties.

    Hi Niamh,

Box id calculated during the system copy process by the "SID", "instance name" and "host name". It is normal behaviour to have different box id after the system copy process. So, at the end of the process, you shouldn't modify this number by using configtool or any other tool. If the box id is wrong, you will not be able to upgrade or pass the prerequisite checks.

At this stage, I recommend you that rollback your changes or repeat the system copy process, from the scratch.

    To find out the required box id value, you can download and execute "instanceidcheck.jar" tool in the the document, below;

Note 1061649 - Upgrade to SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1

Please use SAPINST to export the central instance of the ABAP+JAVA system and import using the SAPINST.. During the installation/import using SAPINST , a JAVA migration toolkit runs , which changes the references of the source system such as hostname, instance number , instance ID in the database .

But the migration toolkit does not run correctly at times . Refer this note

Note 966752 - Java system copy problems with the Java Migration Toolkit

    if you face issues .

Changing the instance ID manually is a big challenge and the system consistency can be at risk.

SUM can only work if the instance ID is not correct.

Let us know if you face issues . Also suggest you if you can unload the JAVA database schema using sapinst when you export the central instance . You will then have to drop the tables from the JAVA schema and then reload the JAVA database tables using sapinst during import. This might be required if you SAPINST encounter issues when running the JAVA migration toolkit . Then refer to the note I mentioned above as well.
