Adapter engine and integration engine

Hi Experts,

             What type of translation is happen in Integration Engine, in adapter engine adapter framework is there so it convert the other messages to xml message. A file is processed through adapter engine and integration engine also. So i want to know what process  integration engine doing exactly.

only adapter engine (adapters) can change the non xml message to an XML one

IE processes the message flow from the adapter engine to another adapter engine

(doing ccBPMs, mappings, routings) - as of 7.11 with ICO object some of those things can also be done on adapter engine itself (except ccBPM) - in previous releases adapter engine could not do the routing and call mappings,

Adapter Engine?

In short, you can say that AE converts the data between external formats and internal SOAP-PI format, while IE processes the message in terms of routing, mapping and so on.
