Germany: Customs Processing with ATLAS

Chemtura is looking at using GTS to electronic customs processing in Germany with ATLAS, can anyone currently doing this (or experienced in setting this up) please give advice. I hear many varying stories about what it means and how it should be done. My consultant tells me I need to use SEEBERGER, the documentation does not specifically say that, can it be done without SEEBERGER. I also understand that if it can be done it does not mean it should be done without SEEBERGER.

Steve,

Normally, when you purchase SAP GTS it comes together with a Seeburger license. It is a proven platform for EDI exchange (not only for customs purposes) and it is therefore natural to use it and it is the case in most SAP GTS environments.

Since it is an EDI platform for sure there are other ones; I also had a customer who developed his own EDI platform for the Swiss customs exchange so also that route is open for you.

Uwe,

Thank you for the information, could you perhaps advise me where I can look to confirm this. We purchased GTS as part of GRC back in 2008, we have not used this part of it since then we mainly used SPL and embargo.

Is there any specifics I can look for in our SAP system to see whether we have this license?

Steve,

Seeburger is a system separate from SAP GTS, so in SAP GTS you will not find a hint if you have or could have Seeburger. I'd suggest you go through your license contract for SAP GTS (it should be clearly stated in there) for making sure the legal part; contacting Seeburger directly might also be a way forward.

If you go for Seeburger then it is likely that you will have a fairly long business relationship with them.

Best regards,

Hello Steve,

Just for catching up; did your inquiry go somewhere ? Maybe as additional piece of information Seeburger also proposes to host their system so no need for you to install a dedicated server etc.

Best Regards,

Uwe
