SAP BO Analysis for Excel and HANA integration

Former Member

Hi

I could not connect BO analysis for Excel(ver2007) with HANA.

Below is the operation

Open Excel 2007 -> click Analysis Menu -> Import ->click data source

Enter BO user id and password and click OK.

Select data source screen appears- Here I can see the list of datasource

when i click JDBCHANA datasource it says HANA ODBC driver does not exists.

Should i have to install HANA client for 32 Bit(win IA 32 bit version)? but my OS is 64 bit.

Pls advice.

Below things are already installed.

Installed SAP BO Analysis(32 bit) for Excel 2007

Environment is Win Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit.

Already installed SAP HANA Client ver 34 - X64 bit

SAP HANA Database Client for MS Excel is also installed version 28

When i used ordinary Excel2007 ->menu Data->datasource->select datasource wizard ->Select HANA MDX Provider

give login information and connect. it works.( i hope HANA DB Client for Excel ODBC 32bit driver helps here)

But for SAP BO cannot use the same driver?

Any addition setting is required in ODBC settings?

pls advice.

Regards

Hi,

Just to add to the link already provided. You get a 32 bit and 64 bit installation of BO analysis for Office and the version you install depends on your office version not your OS version, but in saying that you have installed the correct version otherwise the application would not launch.

I would also recommend you check the version of the client drivers you install match your HANA Version.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

I dont think the problem is due to ODBC driver. because i am able to see the HANA data in Excel using MDX driver.

I have one quick questions.

Open Excel 2007 -> click Analysis Menu -> Import ->click data source

Enter BO user id and password and click OK.

Select data source screen appears- Here I can see the list of datasource

->>how to create these data sources for ODBC?

i have created JDBC connection as follow under Explorer properties in Explorer under CMC at BO server.

newdb.url =Jdbc:sap://xxxxx:300011

Simillarly i have to create connection for OBDC also?

newdb.url =odbc:sap://xxxxx:300011

Pls confirm?

Hi,

I think the issue you have for not seeing your odbc relates to the fact you have a 64 BIT OS and 32bit Office;

Create an ODBC connection here;

c:\windows\sysWOW64

In this directory you will find the 32bit odbc   odbcad32.exe

Explorer;

Are you using a unx file for explorer? or are you going direct through jdbc?

As you do not need to setup both ODBC and JDBC it would depend on how you plan to access the data.

Hello Chandra,

Create a ODBC data source.

Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Data Sources (ODBC) >> Click Add

Then search for HDBODBC driver. And create a data source using this driver.

it will ask you for server and port number.

<Server IP address>: 3XX15 (XX represents instance number and normally it would be "15" else sometimes "16" you can check it in your jdbc connection URL

Create a ODBC data source for your hana server.

And use this in your Analysis office.

Hope this helps.

Hello Krishna

Thanks for reply.

I created ODBC as you said.

how to connect Analysis with Hana?

Using Data(menu)->other data sources->Data connection wizard->OLE DB Provider-> MDX provider?

Analysis has to connect HANA using above way?

It looks like Normal Excel connectivity with HANA.

Can you please tell me how Analysis can conect with HANA (instead of Excel method)

Hi Chandra,

When you open Analysis for Excel, I take it you get the Analysis tab that is loaded on the excel ribbon. From there select the insert connection button. A dialog will open that loads the connections you have in the SAP GUI and your HANA odbc connections. If you do not see your ODBC connection listed check my previous post on the 32bit vs 64 bit ODBC's

Hi Michael

well, i understand your point. Also i read JDBC connection does not support analysis.

Can i know how to create ODBC data source connection between HANA and BO?

When i select data source, it ask for BO system user id and password and then it displays the Datasource window. but i dont have connection for ODBC.

can you pls share me the steps to create ODBC connection.

I already installed HANA client 32 bit and 64 bit, also HANA client for excel 32bit also.

Hello Chandra,

When the system asks you for BO system id and pwd, you can "skip" it , then it will list all the datasources available.

If you had already created a "ODBC data source" as mentioned in my above post. you will see it in that list.

Hello Krishna

I created ODBC data source as you said in User DSN.

From Analysis i skipped the BO sys id and it displays the created ODBC datasource.

when i select this data source and click next, it asks for userid and password. After enter HANA user id and password.

it says error: HDBODBC driver does not exist.

I installed Analysis 32bit in windows 64 bit. Hana client is 64bit now.

Pls suggest me how to go.

Hi Chandra,

If you have installed the 32bit version of Analysis for office you will need to install the 32bit version of the HANA client drivers.

Hi guys

For User A,

I created User DSN in ODBC and created datasource is displayed when selecting datasource.

but when I create User B

should i have to create Datasource for each user in ODBC?

btw..i created SYSTEM DSN in ODBC, but this Datasource does not displayed in Analysis Excel datasource list.

can you pls clarify?

Hi,

Are you talking about two users on the same machine?

System DSN

All users that login to the machine can see the connection

User DSN

Only the user that the odbc connection was created for.

Hi Michael

you are right.

I create SYSTEM DSN and tested.. but datasource is not displayed in datasource list this time.

if User DSN is created, its displayed..whats behing this?

Hi Chandra,

We have already covered the 32bit vs 64bit, so the only thing I think it could be is the windows security, do both users have the same privileges on the machine?

Chandra,

Did you try creating a DSN using user B in your scenario? if not, try that to make sure Windows auth is not an issue!

Which version of Windows are you running on?

Hi

Sorry, this issue still exists so i thaught of continuing this thread.

we have created SYSTEM DSN(DSN name SYS_HDBODBC) using Adminitrator user,to connect with HANA. now the connection is fine.

when i login system with different user and click SYSTEM DSN tab, it gives security warning message and finally SYS_HDBODBC DSN name is displayed.

but when i open Analysis i could not find SYSTEM DSN in select datasource box.

however i could only see the USER DSN name over there.

How to bring SYSTEM DSN in select datasource...? pls advice.

Regards
