Crystal Reports 11.5 runtime, Crystal 2008 runtime, and Crystal Reports 2011

Our customers want to create new formats by using Crystal Reports 2011. Our current application (we will be releasing a new version in the fall with Crystal 2008 runtime components) is still using run time components for Crystal 11 (11.5). Can the Crystal 2011 reports be used with the CR 11 components? Can the Crystal 2011 reports be used with Crystal 2008 components?

Should not be a problem - as long as you do not use new features from CR 2011. And all I can really think of is export to XLSX and DOCX.

    But testing is always recommended.

    • One issue you may run into is using MS SQL Server 2008, R2 doesn't support the SQL Native 10 client and MS doesn't support the MDAC SQL Client to SQL 2008.

If your legacy app is using the RDC it may have problems running the new reports but likely only if the DB drivers have not been updated. And possibly with Parameters, depends on if you have updated the R2 reports to current version. If they happen to be CR 8.5 or earlier reports you will have problems.

As Ludek says, TEST them first, or at least your canned reports....
