Portal UME as ABAP + Java

Dear Experts

Currently we are working with SRM 7.0 in SAP Portal 7.3. SRM abap data mapped to the portal UME.

Currently we are using the sap Portal only for SRM 7.0.

Say for example if we are planning to bring some other system (example ess/ mss which is separate ECC system) in the same enterprise portal.  If this is a case how the user creation can be handled in Portal for the new ECC (for ESS/ MSS). Since the Portal DB is already mapped to the SRM abap.

The users in SRM abap may not be in ECC system. In the same way the users in ECC (for ESS and MSS) may not be in SRM abap.

If this is the case, is there any way to add one more abap data source (here the ECC) in the same Portal?

(Or) can we still allow creating the users in SAP Portal after mapping with abap data source (like UME is ABAP + Java)?

Kind Regards,

Hariprasath

First of all, You cant have JAVA+ABAP as UME data source for Portal...The UME can point to one datasource at one time..

For your case, where you have SRM and ECC as backend - however users may not be available in both the systems...Then I would suggest you use CUA as UME datasource..Create one client in ECC as CUA and point UME to it..Use the concept of Single and Composite roles in CUA maintain users in ECC & SRM.

This will work well in the case one user is in ECC but may not be in SRM..

Hi sandip,

it will be a new implementation to the above scenario.

if he want to do the same in the existing landscape the above method is the best one.

Thanks

Didnt get what you said, which option is best for existing landscape???? You mean creating users in both the systems even if its not required..

Hi Sandip,

As you see that in the above scenario the user having only SRM landscape and if he want to install ESS he need ECC with HR and a portal.

Since he already have a SRM portal we can easily integrate the backend as ECC and front end portal as SRM.

he need to implement ECC and also CUA ( as per your point ). if the user is very less we will go ahead and create the user in both the system which is not tedious. if the users are more than lot we will go ahead and implement that also.

Hope this understand.

Hi Hari,

If you planning to add the other ABAP system ( ECC ) it is better to connect this is backend for ESS system.

In my landscape the HR datas are fetching from ECC which is separate one it is connected to the same SRM portal.

For user assignment we will create user in both the system and provide the backend role in ecc and front in portal

let me know if you have any queries. Hope it helps.

Hi

If I understand correctly regarding the user assignment,  the creation should be in SRM ABAP as well as in ECC system.

Example:

say for example,

we are having 5 users from SRM and 5 users from ECC . So in this case we should create 10 users in SRM abap as well as in ECC (for HR ess) system.

If this is the case, we need to get the extra license who are also not using the SRM or ECC system.

am I right in this regarding.

Hi Hari,

Yes you are right.

If we have 5 unique users in SRM and those users what to use ESS in portal we need to create those 5 users in ECC. we will connect the HR data from ECC for ESS and MSS to portal.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

If I understand correctly,

you are saying the 5 users in SRM who are also going to be in the ESS system. In my case the SRM and ESS users are different.

say for example user Hari is the SRM portal user, and Simbhu is the ESS user. In our case SRM abap system already mapped to the Portal UME.

So if we need the simbhu user in Portal,

we need to create the simbhu user in SRM abap system also who is not going to use the SRM anymore.

if this is the case , we need to get the extra license who are not using the SRM system.

Hi Hari,

Yes. We need to create the user - Simbhu in SRM abap to provide the access to portal. Similarly if Hari is currently working in SRM he want access to ESS, we need to create the user ID in ESS system.

Regarding License you just raise a OSS message to SAP and they will provide you a perfect answer.

Hope this helps.
