MDM Server required or WECM standalone solution?

Hello there,

at the moment I'm evaluating what we need to implement the WECM in a Lab-System.

For this I have two questions:

1. I've read somewhere around here that the WECM is declared as a standalone solution.

- What does that mean? Can I deploy the software on a Netweaver JAVA AS and I'm ready to "play" around with the Webchannel builder?

2. In the case that I have to use a backend (we use SAP CRM 7.0) to run the WECM, do I have build up a full MDM Server or exists a minimal setup for a test system?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

Thank you Adam for this information.

Now I'm a little bit confused.

From my understanding I thought the MDM is mandatory for a connection between WECM and CRM.

Based on your answer now I would say the MDM is needed for the product catalog.

Or I'm getting this totally wrong?

Just for notice: I'm a student apprentice. Right now I try to get information about the options for an installation of Webchannel!

And again thank you very much for your

      That's good to hear!

in this case we can deploy the WECM and learn with it.

One last thing comes to my mind, because the masterguide quotet something like that.

Can you setup a productcatalog by hand or via transfer from the CRM without the MDM

This would be a good thing to know because the business scenario "Campaing management" named something about selling goods." and it dosen't require the MDM-Server!

      How's that achieved?

      Beste regards

    Hi Hendrik,

all relevant business functionality delivered by WCEM is connected to a CRM or ERP system. That means that you will be able to deploy the Java components on a NetWeaver Java Application Server (J2EE Engine) independently from any ERP or CRM system, but thereafter you need to start to work with Web Channel Builder and with the delivered modules and for this a connection to an ABAP backend is needed.

Please be aware about the following backend requirements for WCEM 2.0:

    - SAP CRM 7.0 EHP1 SP07 or higher

    - SAP CRM 7.0 EHP2 SP03 or higher

    - SAP ERP 6.0 EHP5 SP07 or higher

    - SAP ERP 6.0 EHP6 SP03 or higher

A Multi Channel Product Catalog (MDM-based) is only needed if you want to use the catalog functionality. So probably for the very first steps you can avoid to install a MDM.

    Best regards,
