Promotion Overrides in BO 4.0

Hello Everyone,

I taught my self how to create a promotion override, export it as BIAR then import it in the destination system and then make the necessary changes to the Universe connection in there. The million dollar question i have in my mind is - now whenever I promote the universe to that destination from any source system I don't have to go tweak the connection again, do I? Is that the main objective of the the Promotion Override function? Lets say I will be promoting a Universe from DEV (source) to PROD (destination) many times through out the times to come.

Any suggestions and insights greatly appreciated.

Hi,

If there are no changes to connection then no need to promote connection every time from  dev to prod.

While creating an lcmbiar file itself you can avoid of selecting connection to that particluar universe.

Does this mean if only promoting universes and reports, there is no need to promote the overrides at all? And instead un-check (don't choose) the dependent connection for those universe while creating the promotion job? Sorry to re-iterate it but just wanted be a little clear.

Hi,

Just let me keep an example.

We have an report based on universe and connection.

First time we promote all 3 through lcmbair file

now consider if there are few changes in report only, then we need to promote only report from dev to prod. Why do you think we need to promote uni and connection once again from dev to prod( there are no changes at all).

If we have changes in uni and report, then we need to promote uni and report from dev to prod because there are changes.

Thats how are following. We do overdies only when there changes in connections only.

Experts, correct me if I am wrong.
