Commonly used source systems for BI?

Hi Friends,

This question might be basic but wanted to know. Am aware that most of the BI projects have ECC as the source.

Now is the ECC same as R/3?

Also is the ECC the only commonly used source system?

I know this depends on the client. But want to know the scenarios where in a client uses ECC and APO or ECC and CRM in conjunction?

I mean, what is the probability of the multiple source systems usage for BI? Will there be separate structures for each of these handled by separate teams in support?

Pardon my ignorance.

Regards,

Harry

1. ECC is the new name for R/3 - ECC stands for ERP core components ...

You ight also hear Business suite etc in the same breath...

2. ECC is one of the commonly used sources - you also have APO , SRM , CRM , PI etc etc ...flat files ,

Scenarios when anyone uses these sources - when you need data from these systems you have your scenario ...

Multiple sources - depends on the landscape -

If they are handled by different teams ... It depends on the client and their vendors ... no one size fits all here...

Hi,

ECC is the new name for R/3 source system. But I prefer it to call R/3 only.

ECC is one of the most commonly used sources..there will other as well

e.g. CRM (Customer Relationship Managment)

       APO (Advanced Planning Optimization)

       HRM (Human Resource Management),etc.

It depends on clients how they wants..sometimes there will different teams and even different companies for a source system when compared to others. e.g. for HR data , if there is some issue in master data we would take help of HR team ; for some SD issue we will take help from Commercial Team and so on.
