WebDAV - modifying office files changes mime type

Hi there,

we have a very strange behaviour when we are modifying office files (xls, doc,...) over WebDAV in the Portal KM.

After saving the file and closing the office application the mime type of the file is changed to SGML document definition file (text/xml).

We are using SAP EP 7.3 with Windows 7 and Office 2010.

Does anyone have this issue too?

Any thoughts why this is happening?

Thanks and best regards,

Manuel

Hi Manuel,

What is the MIME type of an Office file on the portal before it is modified over WebDAV?

This is a very strange situation since the MIME type is assigned to a file only once when it is created. After that, the MIME type does not change.

Please check if the following MIME types  from http://filext.com/faq/office_mime_types.php are present under:

System Administration -> System Configuration -> Utilities -> MIME types -> MIME types

If they are not, then the office file wont have the correct MIME type even before it is modified over WebDAV.

In this case, you will need to add the MIME types, download the files to your local machine, delete them from the portal and then upload them again.

Hi Tanushsingh,

thanks for the reply.

The MIME type is application/vnd.ms-powerpoint before editing in WebDAV. Afterwards it is the SGML document definition.

All the MIME types listed on the link you gave me are present in the Portal MIME types.

Replacing the file with a copy over WebDAV leeds to a change to the correct MIME type.

Any other idea?

Best regards,

Manuel
