It depends on how you want to do it.You have MSCS option obviously and use it in tandem with Oracle Fail safe. Then have Oracle data guard which also provides a kind of HA solution  but again only for the DB. MSCS cluster is more holistic as it gives you the option of running of SAP application also in HA.To be practical HA without application is not worth it in an SAP environment.

Hi,

If you are planning to do HA setup with MSCS cluster then you need to follow installation guide and check high availability section.

I would suggest you to have HA for application as well. Because when you will perform HA setup for database then you can easily include application as well. If you have any specific doubts then please let us know.

Thanks

Hello Sunny

Thanks for your input.

We are going with HA for database only.  Our database team said they will clone the existing DB. My doubt is when failover happens how the SAP system will get to knew that the DB server has been changed as profile contains the name of active DB server.

Do we need to do some changes in SAP application as well?

Thanks

Hi,

In MSCS cluster, database is installed on virtual hostname which move across the node. So, in case your node1 goes down then db will move to node2 with virtual hostname. So, DB name will not change.

Yes, you need to do changes in SAP Application as well. I would suggest you to check installation guide and follow the procedure there.

Thanks
