In my solution manager I want to generate RFC connection for a client. The tab RFC is grayed out in the product system when I select a client

Which Solution Manager version are you using 7.0x or 7.1?
If 7.0x, in the SMSY - get in Edit mode and then trying generating RFC for the respective client.
If 7.1, using solman_setup -> Managed System Setup, for generating RFCs.
In the below link check the managed system setup link for either 7.01 or 7.1
