Arguments for two or three systems

Hello experts,

  • At the moment we have a three system BW landscape (DEV->QAS->PROD).
  • We do development for reporting in QAS and transport to PROD.
  • We even have just for QAS and PROD a BO Plattform connected, none for DEV.
  • Development of data models and all other customizing is done in DEV and goes ->QAS->PROD.
  • We have two other ERP systems with DEV->QAS->PROD landscape.

So, wouldn't it maybe be better to have just a BW landscape DEV->PROD? What are the arguments pro and con?

Thank you for ideas and experiences!

Best regards,

Peter Baumann

why do you think it is better to have two? I would tell you why it is not better...

    1. Dev doesn't need to be as big as QA, only small unit test is being done in dev and regression test is being done in QA.

    2. QA since it is already bigger in size, you can refresh for more latest data from production once in a while. If you have DEV and if you refresh dev from production everything gets messed up.. transport and untransported objects get deleted.

    3. In cases you move objects to QA and you notice something is not right, then you can always reverse back the changes without impacting the Production system. In two landscape scenario, the correction happens only after the fact.

    4. and more and more.

    thanks.

    Hi,

Yes as mentioned above Dev is smaller system ,u can have data and development client here..Normally it contains lesser data here..

Quality is normally replica of prod and it shd be bigger in size,we should be in the position to copy the data from production or in case we extract the data from source say ECC ,it shd be big enough to hold that data..

usually integration testing and UAT is conducted in quality and for business we never allow any access to dev environment and it shd be non modifiable at any respect..

also deve environment since many projects are going on it gets unstable because of this and things are volatile every day..so results might differ..I hope I am clear

    Thanks and regards
