Hi Prem,

Please refer to the link posted by Ravi.

In addition, please see below the answers for your questions:

- Any where we can keep the excel file in BO server? or in any specific path?

Yes you can keep it any where on server or even keep it in shared drives as well. BO Considers, 1 excel file as database and each sheet of excel file as 1 table.

- User should have access to file path to use universe ?

No. the users are not required to have access excel file path.

In BO there are 2 types of connections. 2-tie connection and 3-tier connection. Generally, developers utilize 2 tier connection and business/reporting users utilize 3-tier connection. When you use 3-tier connection on any machine, you don't need any direct connectivity to BO server. 3-tier connection can be utilized from Webi Rich Client as well. - User should have dsn created in local machine when he is using Richclient WebI to create reports?

No. user can utilize 3-tier connection.

Hi Hardik,

Regarding my 3rd question. I understand that if user set the preference to 'Desktop' in launchpad preferences then he can open Rich client in 3tier mode. But if user not using launchpad and he is using rich client application(which is istalled in his machine). then it will work without dsn created in local?

Thanks,

Hi Prem,

When you open any report from BI Launch pad to Rich client, it create a 3-tier connection file in following location:

Documents and Settings\<windows user id>\My Documents\My SAP BusinessObjects Documents\LocData\

The extension of the file is .extranet

Once file is created, you can use it from Web Intelligence Rich client to access any reports from repository. You can copy the same file on other machines at same location and utilize rich client to access repository in 3-tier connection.

Our user want to create report on excel sheet and it should be able to refresh by other users as well.  But if other user wants to refresh that report then that excel file should be in bo server. So instead of keeping that files in server location..... is there any way to create report from excel file which is on common shared location.. so that other user will also refresh that.  I know BO is not for reporting on Excel data source.. But users needs that...

the recommendation is to have the XLS file on the same server where the WI processing server is running.

you can create a shared folder on that server and share it for read/write access to the users that need to update the XLS
