Segment reporting and Material Management

Hi Guys:

Client is going to have one co code and we are opening 5 segment to have segment wise reporting under one co code umbrella. For this we will be opening 5 profit centers so that segments will be assigned to them. Segment reporting will be achieved through document splitting .

I am facing an issue when we want to derive segment wise reporting through. I have not much knowledge of MM. I understand that we maintain profit center data in Material master data. E.g i have maintained profit center A in material 1002. This profit center has segment XYZ assigned to it. Segment here actually represent funds head. This is fine as long this material is being bought through fund head (segment) XYZ. Now let us suppose same material is being purchased through Segment ZUX which is assigned to the different profit center . Now do we have an option in MM to change profit center assignment to Material at the time of creating PO or MIGO. In MIGO screen profit center derived is greyed out , i want to change this field . If this field can be changed in any way or there is alternate way to manage this scenario in MM then my issue will be resolved. Please guide.

Regards

P.S :Can we create 5 plants for 5 profit centers and then create one material with different plants with different profit center assignment.

profit center in MIGO is derived from material master. profit center can be unique for a material at plant level

Hy Atif,

Would you mind sharing with me the solution you've chosen for this problem?

I'm facing the same problem in a client.

Thanks in advance.

Well. We used a single profit center in all material master since it was client practice to procure all material and report them in one segment only.

Ok. Thanks a lot.

I'll have to find a work around, because my client buy and report materials for all its segments.

You can ask MM guy to use split valuation.

Hi,

Keep concept of one plant for one profit center, so you will have five respective plant for five profit center.Have a cutomised table for it.

Now use user exit:EXIT_SAPLMGMU_001 and during creation of material in MM01 with repect to each plant, the respective profit center will be defaulted.

We do not want to create 5 plants , is there any other way around to have this in system. Can we change profit center at the time of MIGO ?

Hi,

You should not change profit center during any transactions or for your case during MIGO.Profit center

should flow from master data( material master and cost center etc..) into the transactoion posting.

Dicuss with FICO and Business team and get the real requirement for transactoion posting! And also check did profit center designed based on Product Group or based on Geographical Location!

profit center in MM transactions are derived from account assignment and in absence of account assignment it is defaulted from material master ( unique for Plant- material combination)

Might i suggest using project system if you want to have 5 profit center segments in single plant. You can assign profit centers at Project level and make transaction assigned to WBS elements. Account assignment "Q" allows even stock posting. See if it is feasible for you to incorporate in design.
