Hello Experts,

I am quiet new in SAP HANA. What i have got so far is that HANA provide fast access to both transactional and operational data as it is based on RAM(in-memory) rather than in disk storage.

So could anyone please help with he below scenarios:

1). How SAP HANA will help in getting fast access to the master data( i.e golden record) which is obtained from MDM.

2). How can governance policies will be implemented to the master data which is obtained from SAP MDG or SAP MDM while accesing the data through HANA.

Any help will be rewarded.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Prateek

Hi Prateek,

Answer to your questions -

1. SAP MDM is currently not supported by HANA and the data volume supported by SAP MDM does not require HANA anyways. HANA is for huge volume of data.

2. SAP MDG is a component of SAP ERP Enhancement Package. So when you install Ehp6 you will get MDG which will share the SAP tables (like MARA) with your ERP/ECC. So if ECC is currently on HANA then your MDG will be automatically on HANA. As of now SAP MDG is not only a data governance solution but also a embedded MDM solution for Materials, Vendors, Customers & FInancial master data residing on your ERP 6.0 Ehp6 box (Only material is supported in Ehp5).

Thanks,

Shambhu.

Hi Shambhu,

1. SAP MDM use Repository (  Material ,Customer ) structure will be complex with main table tuple , lookup so if you replicated in HANA and Reporting will faster and performance if pulling information will faster than using Directly from SAP MDM.

2 SAP MDG also contains Data Model which not similar to MARA , MARC table so SAP is providing SAP MDG 7 HANA classes so reports for data in stage area created which based on change request and Data updated in stage can be analysis.

Thanks

HANA is just a data base, so data from MDM will have to be pulled in HANA  (using BODS , or FLAT file generated by MDM ) .

Only once the MDM masterdata is residing inside HANA as tables , that HANA will be able to report using those "Golden Record" SUPER fast .

Data governance is a process, and the process ensures that the data entry or the current data ( mdm ) is clean . so by the time hana uses that data ,, master data goverance should have already ensured that the data is good

Hi Rajarshi,

Thanks for replying.

As you mentioned  HANA is a database. so it contains the tables in it. So will HANA contains the same fields as of MDM or will be there any intermediate steps like (mapping  step) of fields.

One more thing i want to understand as HANA is in-memory concept so where this HANA databse store.

Thanks in advamce

Prateek,

As you understood, HANA is a Database. You have to build tables in the database. While creating tables, you may create them in such a way that their structure matches with MDM tables.

You will appreaciate HANA performance when you process large volumes of transactional data with complicated calculations (like historical sales analysis region wise, production cost analysis, etc).

SAP MDM is well known to handle large volumes of master data efficiently.

Thanks,

Satya.

Hi Satya,

Why would need to replicate the data from SAP MDM to HANA, why not create it in HANA itself in that case then. What is the advantage ?
