statistical value in vov7(values cant be used statistically)

Dear sd gurus , Good mng

                 i have one Doubt in item category about statistical value . i know it controls whether system takes the value of an item into account when it determines the total value of the document

here 3 options availabul

if we leave blank........  system will copy to header totals

if we put X...................values cant be used statistically

if we put y....................values can be used statistically 

                  here my doubt is just give one small example for  X AND Y (values cant be used statistically) Here only i am confusing plz
