Crystal Reports-Failed to Open Connection in CMC

Former Member

Hi,

I have designed a Report in Crystal Reports 9 on a remote desktop machine. It perfectly connects to the database and retrieves the fields. I have previewed the report in Crystal Reports as well. That's working fine.

Now I want to schedule this report in a Crystal Report Server. For that I have imported the .rpt file of my report to my machine and in the Central Management Console of SAP Business Objects Enterprise XI I have given the path of this .rpt file.

I have also given the Database Configuration Parameters in CMC but I'm unable to view the report in CMC.

I get this error : "Failed to open connection".

Looking forward to a positive replies.

Hi

What is the datasource for your crystal report ? (middle ware).

If your report is using DSN while creating a report, check the same DSN is available in your BO Server.

Thanks,

Hi Sastry,

The datasource of my crystal report is the database of HP Service Manager. I created the report using the wizard in the Crystal Report and sucessfully connected the database with Crystal Reports and manually entered the query for fields in the report. Everything works fine in the Crystal Reports. I can view the report but NOT in CMC.

DSN? What's that? Kindly elaborate.

Thanks for your help.

Apologies in advance for not being a super technical person, but I just had this exact issue with my CMC and Crystal Server. Hopefully, my non-technie knowledge can help you.

Essentially, on the local machine that you are running Crystal Reports, I assume you have an ODBC driver so that Crystal Report uses to access your database.  If you are successfully connecting to your HP Database, that means you have the correct driver to access that database.   The machine that hosts the CMC also must have it's own ODBC driver to connect to your database, as well as setup with your login credentials to the database.    You can add an ODBC driver in the admin tools section of your server.

Hope this helps!
