Long Running Master Data Transport

Former Member

Hello BW experts,

We have a Masterdata info object with 20 attributes. Now added about 200 attributes and made most of them as NAV attributes. When we sent the transport to QA system it took about 40 hours to complete. We deleted the unused masterdata from target systsem before the tranport but not all of it as it was still in use in some data targets.

Now wondering if anyone has experience transporting such master data with huge number of attributes and are there any database or use settings that needs to be changed to make this reduce the transport times. Appreciate any help.

a good trick can be ( if possible in production ) to delete data before to transport and after reloading

Okay, this might be a massive help to anyone having the same issue. SAP has released a note (Note 1466536 - Long runtimes when transporting InfoObjects) valid since 26.05.2011.

Basically, this note will make the indexes are deleted by default in the database before the XY-table is rebuilt and they are created again after the table is successfully rebuilt.

You can ask your basis team to re-organize the underlying master data tables before you transport.

It will reduce the transport time considerably.

Hope it helps

I dont think there is any way to make it faster .. things that you could try can be :

What is basically happening is that when the transport is being sent through - it is adjusting the P , Q , X , Y tables and regenerating all the master data to check the consistency ( and of course deactivating any transformation that uses the read master data )

What are the sizes in records of your X and Y tables in particular ..?
