Depreciation Run Fails when summarized by Distr Rule doesn't belong to Dim 1

Dear Experts,

I am using SAP B1 8.81 PL10. I have defined 2 dimensions for cost centers and dimension 2 contains all departments. I want to post depreciation with distribution rules in which dimension 2 (departments) cost centers are assigned. System doesn't allow me to post. I have searched for the note and it states that SAP B1 only supports fixed asset with dimension 1. That note belongs to b1 release earlier than 8.8. I have also found a post http://scn.sap.com/thread/1829685 relating to my problem. Can anyone please help me if SAP have made any update regarding this issue or any workaround is possible for this?

PS: Gordon, If you come across my post. Please try to help.

Thanks in Advance,

Farhan Sufi

Dear Farhan,

Thank you for your trust on me. However, because we have not using dimensions so far, I have no answer for now.

Probably it still supports cost accounting for Dimension 1 only. It might not be easy to change to include more.

Thanks,

Gordon

Dear Gordon,

Sorry for the delay.

Ur welcome Gordon and Thanks for the response. Yeah it is not possible to now change the dimension for cost centers. I m stuck at the point that I've made 2 dimensions and unfortunately I have chosen dimension 2 for departments category whose cost centers are used for allocation of depreciation. If I had chosen dimension 1, I would face no problem in allocating depreciation among cost centers (department i.e. Dim 2). This is the limitation of FA addon from SAP.

To cover this, I have used a customized report to get expenses by departments (dim 2). and I have taken the values of dep of each asset from 'actual dep' table. and then clubbed all actual dep.(posted dep.) values on to cost centers (dim 2) which were assigned to each asset. Thats how I've catered the requirement.

Gordon, do you think SAP should include more dimensions support in FA add-on?

Regards,

Farhan

My answer is: SAP SHOULD include more dimensions support in FA add-on. However, that will have big impact in the application logic. I don't think it can be available anytime soon.

Thanks for your valuable opinion Gordon. I've answer for now at least. My next step is to bring that requirement on 'Idea Place' for SAP B1 so that if other peers can support the idea and if it appeals to SAP, then it may speed up the processing time for inclusion of other dimensions support in FA Add-on by SAP.
