Hey Everyone,
For those of you who know me - I have recently moved to Singapore (still with SAP Research). For those of you who don't know me - I am with SAP Research in Singapore. I am now one of the people responsible for building up the biggest SAP Research centre in the APJ region.
At the end of July we are planning a public event at SAP Singapore office. It is going to be a 1/2 day event with local intern students/student interns presenting outcomes of their projects with SAP Research. There will definitely be a few gems there, and I am now preparing an exciting event including demo jam like show of the projects. I want to engage the local SAP community, to let them see the innovation coming from the young Singaporean prodigies plus build a stronger network, so that our partners feel more welcome to reach out to SAP Research and talk about their problems (which we might be able to help solving).
In order to keep the event engaging and relevant, I wanted to reach out to the local mentor community (those who know me, know that I at least try to keep in touch with the Australian mentors, as that's where I was HQed for the last few years). And guess what: THERE ARE NO SAP MENTORS IN SINGAPORE.
What a pity, considering the country is only five times smaller than Australia (which has currently 9 mentors I believe), and is the headquarters for SAP in the region.
So, without complaining too much about the lack of mentors here, I just wanted to shout out and check if anyone of the global mentors is planning to visit Singapore towards the end of July - it would be awesome to have some of you guys here. Both to hear from you as well as to share some of our ideas with you. And I am sure the young students here would appreciate it even more!
Let me know. The event is going ahead, that's for sure, and it would be fantastic if its profile could be raised by having some mentors present!
Cheers,
Marek
Hi Marek,
I'm afraid my travel budget does not extend to Singapore. (hint, hint, )

Hi Marek,
I am Jansi, I too recently shifted to Singapore, from the initial day on I have same concern as you that could nt able to meet the experts,(Who are still incognito ) in this small Singapore region. Even I raised this words to few, now you started this initiation.
Thanks, sure this event would help all of them.
Try to get the mentors in place, will eagar to meet them and get the knowledge sharing from them directly.
(If not then arrange by virtual).
Regards,
Jansi
Hey Vitaliy,
What a small world it is. 🙂 I am holidaying now (just came to Poland yesterday), but will be catching a morning flight from Warsaw on July 3rd, meaning I should be in Warsaw in the afternoon the day before. I don't think I would go to the SAP office, but if you stay a bit longer on that day, we could catch up for dinner. Let me know (probably best on priv: firstname@lastname.net).
Cheers,
Marek
Hi Marek
Good luck with the event. I usually get there about 4 times a year for teaching but unfortunately not till November now.
I have been tralling to Singapore for the past 10 years teaching and have realised over this time that the SAP user community seems to struggle in Singapore for some reason. I don't think there is a user group even though many have shown an interest in developing one. This lack of collaboration makes it difficult for people to grow their skills and contribute to the local SAP community.

Thanks Paul!
November may be good as well - your visit might coincide with a living lab workshop there. We are still building it (in the pouring-concrete-on-the-floor sense), but the plan is to finish before November and have a launch event probably in November. But that's a different topic.
I would be keen on learning more on your experiences. It is clear that there are plenty SAP customers and even more SAP professionals in the area. It's definitely a very fertile ground. If you have any good contacts - people you would recommend I should talk to in order to prime/kickstart some activities - let me know.
Hi, Marek
I'd love to attend your activity. When will this public event be held? Do you know that China SAPPHIRE will be hosted in Beijing in mid July?

Hi Marek,
Thanks for reaching out to the SAP Mentor community. Even here in the public forum.
We would love to have SAP Mentors in Singapore too.
Nomination of new SAP Mentors for the fall 2012 is open: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dG5YQk1fcUF4VGZPS21GUm82djdxUUE6MA#gid=0
Please especially nudge/encourage customers and women to join us, as their voices are so important and not enough represented at the moment.
Thank you, Mark.
