BPC 7.5 MS – loading data daily?

Dear all,

I’m looking for some feedback regarding the use of BPC 7.5 MS in the following scenario:

My client is loading daily transactional data from SAP FI-CO, SD and MM to BPC 7.5 MS. Their main focus is Sales Reporting. They don’t own BW or any other types of data warehouses. The idea that was sold to them a long time ago is to use BPC as a data warehouse. Since they’re loading data to BPC on a daily basis dimensions need to be updated on a daily basis as well as the Master data in the mentioned source systems changes.

The idea of maintaining BPC Dimensions daily obviously is not very appealing. Hence they are writing custom programs in the SQL database so that when a new customer ID is created in FI-CO for example it then automatically creates the new customer ID in the BPC dimension.

Question 1: Would anyone argue that BPC can be used as a data warehouse rather than a consolidation system?

Question 2: Is there a way around updating BPC dimensions manually through the admin that is supported by SAP?

Thanks

Hi Jill,

BPC is never used to hold data. In case of BPC MS, you have MS SQL which acts as the data warehouse. BPC is used to fetch the data from the underlying database and do the data manipulations as required.

You can create DM packages to automate the master data load and transaction data loads.

Hope this helps.
