How to control a field value in an ABAP report through a variant?

We have a report and the selection screen has a appplication server file name(Parameter) field where the program when run , downloads the report contents . Our requirement is to avoid overwritting the file instead have different filenames preferably timestamp everytime the program is run .

This could have been easily acheived if we could make changes in the program but as its shared amongst many business we are not authorized to change the program . Hence variant creation is the only option we are left with .

Is it possible to control the field contents specially in our case where everytime the program runs the value should change ?

Please help !

You can create a wrapper program and pass the required values.

Create a variant, you could there use a selection variable for filename.

    - Create such a selection variable with STVARV (Creating Table Variables from TVARVC)

    - Assign this variable to variant (Creating and Maintaining Variants)

    - Create a small report to update the value in TVARVC, execute it periodically (Use RVSETDAT as template) or in a step before the execution of your report

    Regards,
