Managing “anonymous” configured material in stock

Former Member

Hi Gurus,

We have a situation where we need to keep stock of configured material, in cases of:

  • Production leftovers
  • Customer returns where original sales order is not defined
  • Sample products.

In all these cases, material configuration is known.

Is there a way to keep them in some regular stock (not sales order stock)?

Is it feasible or making sense to manage them in batches (with appropriate characteristics values of the configuration)?

We know that another option is creating a material variant, which could also help when creating a sales order.

Any other practical ideas?

TIA,

Adark

Hi Meny,

As per my suggestion the material variant is only good option you can adopt in this case. Drawback to keep free stock of VC material is the wrong inventory costing. The free stock will not show proper valuation as the inventory cost of VC material is taken from the sale order costing. In case of batch management again the more master data is required to maintain, So better to go for the material variant which will give proper stock and cost situation.
