Hi Paven,
A guide to proxy-jdbc scenario: http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-3813
Client proxy: who cosumes the service
Server proxy: who gives the service
"Proxy" abap or java proxies are technologies that facilite the implementation and communication

as per my knowledge , we have to create everything port ,partner profile ,RFC... on ECC system then coming to pi , you have to refer below blog .
http://scn.sap.com/people/william.li/blog/2011/05/04/configuring-pi-730-java-idoc-adapter
on ECC Sys, without configuration , Sender system how could know about who is receiver and how to send data from ECC to PI so we need to create Configurations whatever we created earlier versions..
