Default Setting on List when saving on a list-save-file from SAP

Dear all,

I would like to change the default settings when I save - not export - a list to a file.

Exemple :

1. Transaction FPM3

2. Choose Business Partner

3. Execute

4. I get a list

5. From the list :

    List - Save - File

By default, I always get the .txt. My goal is to have .xls instead .txt.

I have read OSS note 1080608 but it concern the export file, not the save file.

I have started report SALV_BS_ADMIN_MAINTAIN but it does not fix the issue.

It was working until ERP 6.0 EHP4. Since we have move to ERP-EHP5, we do have this issue.

Best regards

    Dear all,

Please note that I get the following pop-up :

    0 unconverted

    0 Spreasheet

    0 Rich text format

    0 HTML Format

    0 In the clipboard

When I choose Spreadsheet, by default, I get :

    File Name = *.txt.

My goal is to get :

    File name = *.xls

Where may I change this settings ?

    Best regards

    • Hello,

This can be controlled via SET/GET-Parameter LIST_CONVERT_TO_DAT at once for users who use the feature quite regularly.
SAP may not write a real xls file. This is only a comma delimited text file that can be imported into MS Excel. Please refer to SAP note 975868 attached which addresses your issue.

There is a Parameter ID which can be used by each user in order to set the desired default file extension once:

      975868 Conversions when downloading spreadsheets

      SAP note 569537 also explains:

"Download the list for the spreadsheet. (All other options for the
list download are not relevant). The 'Save' dialog box suggests XLS
as the file format. This is overwritten with TXT"

By defaulting the string VALUE to `XLS`, It somehow gives the illusion
to the use that the file is saved as binary xls but its not.
The XLS format is a binary format that Microsoft has never revealed.

The LIST_CONVERT_TO_DAT (and other GUI_DOWNLOAD) only transfers data in
ASCII format or genuine binary format, but not Excel format.
In this case, if you download data in i.e: ASC file format, but label
the file test.XLS. If you try to open this file with Excel (double click
on file in explorer), Excel take it as a true Excel file is coming up
instead of a text file which is labeled as XLS and the wrong
interpretation of the Excel application may leads to problems.

      Regards,

      David

So for solving this issue, I have to maintain the user with parameter LIST_CONVERT_TO_DAT one by one? Is there any good ways to reduce the maintenance effort?

In the result report, right click and select Spreadsheet, you get a small window, where you un-tick "Always Use Selected Format", to make it blank, then tick the green tick. After that you should be able to select a different format.
