Hi,
I have succssfully configured alerts in XI and am able to see the alerts in my AlertInbox.
Now I would like to send e-mails and SMS to external users.
I found the some help from help.sap.com, which said that SMTP service needs to be activated, i did that.... but it doesnt work.
Has anybody tried the same???
What else needs to be activated or configured??
Any suggestion as how I should proceed.

Do you see entries in SCOT or SOST transaction. You can also test using EMAIL transaction. There is another program that you can use to test ALERT - RSALERTTEST. In this program, go to additional config and try entering INT email address.
If you see data in SCOT than all you have to do is schedule program - RSCONN01 to push emails to exchange server.
Were successful in getting Alerts working via creating rules in Alert Configuration. In case of application errors, I'm curious to see what kind of messages do you see in Alert inbox. Can you send me a sample. I never got Alerts via creating rules working...I use Alerts via steps in BPM process. However, we have interface that run without BPM.
Did you have to use subscribe.

We face more or less a similar issue..Alert rules configured in Alert configuration not working on a standalone mode on non CCBPM scenarios for errors like adapter errors and mapping errors..Did u get any inkling to what the solution is..
When we debugged from our end, the program SXMSALERT_PROCESS_DATA_GET we realised one of the tables is not getting filled with the Alert category defined during error scenarios..
Would appreciate ur help on this.
